Kendra Barnes - 2014 Emerging Bridal Designer
On the personal front, Kendra Barnes may err toward the tomboy side (she’s played soccer her “whole life,” loves country music, and has been known to target practice with her boyfriend), but when it comes to creating gowns, the 2014 Emerging Bridal Designer (EBD) winner is all girly girl. “Sparkly, shiny, and flowy are typically my staples,” says the chiffon-addicted Kendra, who lives in Dayton, Ohio. Besides sophisticated, ethereal gowns rendered with princess-worthy materials and accents, the Savannah School of Art and Design grad also brings to the runway a wealth of experience: she’s served as a design intern for designer Michael Kors; as an intern for bridal designer Beth Elis; and as a bridal stylist for Alfred Angelo. But don’t think for a minute Kendra, who aspires to have her own label and boutique, is jaded on any front. “A wedding gown is the most important dress a girl will ever wear,” she says, “and I want to be the one to make her perfect dress for her perfect day.” And as for winning a runway show during Charleston Fashion Week and Charleston Weddings Magazine’s Spring Bridal Show? “I have been hearing great things about CFW for years,” she says, “even before I thought about applying. To actually be a part of it will be a memory of a lifetime!” Cheers to that, and to seeing what Kendra’s verve will translate to on March 22.
